Leather needs less care than people think — and the wrong care does more damage than none. Here's a routine that keeps a crossbody right.

Daily

Empty the bag at the end of the day. Let it rest stuffed lightly to hold its shape. Wipe with a soft dry cloth if needed.

Cleaning

For surface marks, use a barely damp soft cloth and let it air dry away from heat. Avoid soaking the leather or using household cleaners.

Conditioning

Condition twice a year with a neutral leather balm, applied sparingly with a soft cloth. Test on an inconspicuous area first. Less is more.

Storage

Store in the dust bag, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Stuff lightly to retain shape. Never hang by the strap long-term.

What not to do

Don't use alcohol, baby wipes, vinegar or household detergents. Don't dry with heat. Don't over-condition — it can soften the leather too much.

FAQ

Quick answers.

Twice a year is enough for most leathers. Suede and vegetable-tanned leather have their own care notes.
